やった Yatta! has been purposefully designed to engender student driven learning via a full colour write in consumable textbook using communicative strategies to deliver a systematic study of the language.
The やった Yatta! concept has been designed to explicitly align with the latest AUSVELS and State Study Designs. Language, script and culture are integrated into relevant topics in each unit in context using Communicative methodology.
With a focus on the Japan of today, both traditional and pop-culture knowledge is introduced gradually to scaffold sociocultural knowledge, leading to age-appropriate conversations. The focus of written material is presented primarily as ひらがな Stage 1, カタカナ Stage 2 and 漢字 (かんじ) Stage 3. Stage 4 will have a focus on text types.
The key strategies for supporting Japanese learners in the やった Yatta! program are independent learning, authentic media, socio-cultural knowledge and rich tasks, supported by the textbook and website.
The やった Yatta! team assumes students have no prior knowledge of Japan or Japanese other than general knowledge. Those students who have prior Japanese education can be supported through extension material in the ‘Extras’ unit in each text and via resources on the website.
